Algona-- Saturday Sept 26th

This is the fall special and the last night at Algona. I started the heat race outside front row with what I knew was a good car. I didn't get the jump and made the first corner in 2nd. Being patient, my door opened and I took it and ended up winning the heat race. For the feature, I drew for my starting spot. I started 8th and being patient worked my way up to 4th. It was a good night and a great end to the season at Algona!

Boone-- Saturday

On Thursday, the guys and I decided to come home. The wives and girlfriends were happy and I was just as happy to see my two favorite gals too! We all hopped back in the suburban Saturday morning heading for Boone for the last time. I started the big show in 12th position. We started three cars wide and ten rows deep. The first couple laps I tried to be patient but still trying to go towards the front. About lap 8, I had gotten to the bottom where my car was fast all week and got caught up in a wreck! The car had enough damage where we were sent to the trailer for the evening. I wasn't upset, just disappointed because I knew we had a good car. Just to make the show was so much bigger than I ever hoped or imagined! I was so proud of all the guys for getting me there, for the love and support of Heather and Paige, and the fans who came to watch me race. It was an awesome experience that I will always remember and to make it into the big show as a rookie was huge!

Boone-- Wednesday

This is the last day of qualifying at Boone. Today I was lined up by my passing points from the two previous days. I was in 36th of 162 in passing points so I knew I had a chance today. The last chance heats had 12 cars and only the top two moved on! I started third and had a fast car. I ended up winning my heat race and got interviewed in the infield at the Boone Supernationals! I drew 6th for the qualifying A feature for the evening and that took the top ten out of that for the Saturday night show. I ran hard and ended up finishing 4th for the evening. So the next stop was the inspection tent. My friend Josh had the stuff in the motor compartment, Puffy pulled the axle and ran for parts and Dan Haugland and I pulled trailing arms off! After an hour at the tent, we passed and I was on my way to the big show at the Boone Supernationals!

Boone-- Tuesday

After getting to bed at 4am and back up at 8 we arrived at the track about 10:30 to get ready for the day. Hot laps were at 2pm again. I hit the track earlier today as the heat race was at 8pm. I drew a little better as I started 6th in the heat race. I worked my way up to the 3rd spot which got me qualified for the the qualifying A feature for the evening. My goal was to make one of these for the week. I started 20th and had worked my way to 11th and got caught up a little bit and finished 17th. Oh well, we have made my goal and I still have one night left!

Boone-- Monday

Today was the first big day of the week. We arrived at the track around ten am. Puffy, Dan and I got the car ready for the day. Hot laps were at 2pm. After that the waiting game began. My heat race hit the track shortly after 9pm. First lap a guy spun out right in front of me so we were already a half lap down. I ended up getting 7th in the heat race. The top 3 in the heats went to the qualifying A feature for the night. I ran a B feature at 12:30 and all that is for is the last chance stuff wed night. I started tenth and got 2nd. I was very happy and very tired but was happy with the first day performance!

Boone Supernationals! -- Sunday

After a long evening in Algona, Dan and I took off sunday morning for the inspection tent in Boone. We got there about 10 am and got the car unloaded. Getting in line of probably 100 cars already was not what I was looking forward to. Getting myself registered while Dan and my motor builder waited in line with the car we finally got to the tent. As they are checking the car over, they informed us that the motor was too far set back. Looking at it a little farther we found the motor mounts had twisted loose from the frame. So Dan and I headed to my friend's by Somers and pulled the motor out, fixed it and arrived in Boone about 8pm. So much for a relaxing day at the motorhome.

Busier than ever!

Taking us back to season championship night at Algona. I started the feature 4th and tried to be a little patient and got shuffled all the way back to 8th. After a caution I got things working back my way as I began working my way through the pack. We ended up the night one lap short finishing second and losing by half a car length. Good season at Algona, I ended up 5th in the points and was the 2009 stock car rookie of the year!

August 29th

Hard to believe the season is winding down in Algona!

I had a very good running car as I claimed my 6th heat race victory of the season.

I started third and caught a break early in the feature and found myself leading the first lap. As the laps wound down I continued to lead until a late race caution came out. Coming out of four we held onto the lead for another lap until I got passed on the high side.

As I tried to get him on the last lap, I pushed it a little too hard and opened the bottom and lost second in the last corner. However, I have no regrets because I gave it all and went for it. A 3rd place finish is very respectable and I'm very pleased.

updates

sorry, this summer has been very hectic as it is coming to an end. We have had a couple top ten finishes early in the month along with another heat race win.

August 1st-Algona

I started 3rd in the heat race and finished 3rd.

I started 5th in the feature, after the leader spun and caused a caution I was up to 3rd.

I had a good run, the car ran very well and I ended up finishing 4th. I am happy with another top 4 finish.

3rd Place....twice in one week

We went to Spencer on Thursday...one of my favorite places to race. I started outside front row in the heat race and finished first. I started the feature 7th and felt we had a very good car. I had to fight to get around the driver running third and finally got around him with two laps to go. The leaders had already checked out, so ended up 3rd. A finish I am proud to have.

Saturday night was back to Algona. I started 4th in the heat race and finished 3rd. For the feature, I started 3rd and ran 2nd til about 3 laps to go. The eventual winner got a little "bump and run" to get around me so I finished 3rd.

I am very happy with the two finishes this week.

Updates........It's Been Awhile

Sorry! Summer has been busy and its seems like the blog kept getting put off!

We have had an interesting last month racing. We went to Alta to a Stock Car Shootout, a trip to Britt and the weekly travels to Algona. We won a few heat races and missed a feature win by one spot.

I really feel we are getting a handle on the stock car class but with the tough competition it still takes time. Last night at Algona we got 5th in the feature and it went on the trailer in one piece.

We are planning to travel to Spencer on Thursday to run on the clay again. Spencer is one of my favorite tracks in the hobbystock so im hoping it continues in the stock car!

May 30th-Algona

After getting the car put back together, it was time to go racing. We made it through the hot laps with everything in one piece..easing the mind for a bit. I finished 3rd in the heat race so lined up 5th for the feature. I drove smart to avoid last weekends results and finished 7th in the feature.

Saturday-May 23rd-Jackson MN

Since Algona was cancelled on Saturday night, I decided to change gears and head to Jackson.

I didn't finish the heat race because somebody got a little squirrelly on the start and did some damage to the car. I got it put back together and was able to start the feature in 22nd position. I had worked my way up to 8th when a car in front of me got sideways and the car behind me took the rear-end off the car. After a trip to Schroeder Racing Products yesterday morning it's going to be a "few" hours of repair to get ready for next weekend.

I finished 2nd in the heat and made it to the A-Main feature. Started 12th for the feature. Worked my way up to 5th and was making the pass for 4th. We got together and I ended up breaking something in the front end. I made it a few more laps, but the car wasn't steering well and I ended up spinning the car. Finished 16th.

Algona-May 9th

After a 55 minute rain delay, the races finally got underway.

I started 3rd in the heat race and finished 3rd. I got passed by one car, but I also passed another.

I started 5th in the feature and was involved in a pile-up on the first lap. I re-started in the back of the pack and worked my way back up to 9th. The car ran well....it would be nice to see what happens when there's not a pile-up in front of me. We're getting there!

Algona-May 2nd

Back to the home track. Algona had much better track conditions than I encountered on Friday night in Britt. It was a beautiful night for racing. Mother Nature finally decided to cooperate.

I started 4th in the heat race and finished 3rd. I started 4th in the feature and finished 7th.

I am starting to get the car figured out, it's just going to take some time to get as comfortable with this car as I was in the Hobbystock. It gets a little better each time I drive it.

Britt-May 1, 2009

We went to Britt to try it out before their Stock Car Shoot-out on May 21st. The track was extremely rough, think plowed field. It wasn't a very impressive opening night for that track.

I started 9th in the heat race and finished 7th. I started 13th in the feature and finished 10th. The track was one groove and there wasn't much I could do. The car is in one piece so I guess you could call it a successful night in that aspect.

Algona-April 25

The track was very heavy and slimy due to the rain Algona received earlier in the day. The track needed to be worked an extra half hour just to get it ready to race on.

I started 3rd in the heat race and came across the line as the winner. The car was working great. I started 5th in the feature and was involved in an accident early on. A car got sideways in front of me and I didn't have anywhere to go but into him. There was no damage to my car, but had to start at the back of the pack. I worked my way through some of the cars to finish the race in 10th place.

Algona Raceway-April 11

The first night of the new season at Algona Raceway went off without a hitch. The weather cooperated, the car ran great and everybody is in one piece.
I started last in the heat race and finished 3rd. I started 12th in the feature and finished 9th. I'm content with 9th, considering it was the first night in a new class. The competition in the IMCA Stock Car class is tough, no matter what track you go to.
I'm looking forward to an awesome season.

Getting Ready

Race season begins in Algona on April 4th.

It doesn't look like a Stock Car now, but soon will. We are busy getting the car ready to paint so it can be ready for the graphics next week.
