Algona-April 17, 2010

I started 6th in the heat race and finished 2nd. Since I am second in points I had to start in the 11th position. The car ran great and I finished in the 6th spot.

The quality of the competition is extremely tough this year and I feel very fortunate to be able run well.

Algona-April 10, 2010

Since I had a win the first race, I had to start 6th in the heat race. I ended up finishing fourth, which was good enough to make my qualifying starting spot.

After making a few changes to the car between races, I started 11th in the feature. It was a rough race with lots of 3-wide racing. Usually with me sandwiched in the middle! I ended up finishing the race in the 6th position.

Algona-April 3, 2010

First night of racing in Algona for the 2010 season. I started on the pole for the heat race and ended up finishing a respectable second.

I had a good draw to start the feature in the third position. After the second lap I had taken the lead. I was fortunate enough to be able to hold the line on the bottom and not allow any cars to get around. I held off the pack til the checkered flags flew gaining my first victory in the IMCA Stockcar class.
Picture above is from victory lane. My number one fan is holding the trophy.

Algona-- Saturday Sept 26th

This is the fall special and the last night at Algona. I started the heat race outside front row with what I knew was a good car. I didn't get the jump and made the first corner in 2nd. Being patient, my door opened and I took it and ended up winning the heat race. For the feature, I drew for my starting spot. I started 8th and being patient worked my way up to 4th. It was a good night and a great end to the season at Algona!

Boone-- Saturday

On Thursday, the guys and I decided to come home. The wives and girlfriends were happy and I was just as happy to see my two favorite gals too! We all hopped back in the suburban Saturday morning heading for Boone for the last time. I started the big show in 12th position. We started three cars wide and ten rows deep. The first couple laps I tried to be patient but still trying to go towards the front. About lap 8, I had gotten to the bottom where my car was fast all week and got caught up in a wreck! The car had enough damage where we were sent to the trailer for the evening. I wasn't upset, just disappointed because I knew we had a good car. Just to make the show was so much bigger than I ever hoped or imagined! I was so proud of all the guys for getting me there, for the love and support of Heather and Paige, and the fans who came to watch me race. It was an awesome experience that I will always remember and to make it into the big show as a rookie was huge!

Boone-- Wednesday

This is the last day of qualifying at Boone. Today I was lined up by my passing points from the two previous days. I was in 36th of 162 in passing points so I knew I had a chance today. The last chance heats had 12 cars and only the top two moved on! I started third and had a fast car. I ended up winning my heat race and got interviewed in the infield at the Boone Supernationals! I drew 6th for the qualifying A feature for the evening and that took the top ten out of that for the Saturday night show. I ran hard and ended up finishing 4th for the evening. So the next stop was the inspection tent. My friend Josh had the stuff in the motor compartment, Puffy pulled the axle and ran for parts and Dan Haugland and I pulled trailing arms off! After an hour at the tent, we passed and I was on my way to the big show at the Boone Supernationals!

Boone-- Tuesday

After getting to bed at 4am and back up at 8 we arrived at the track about 10:30 to get ready for the day. Hot laps were at 2pm again. I hit the track earlier today as the heat race was at 8pm. I drew a little better as I started 6th in the heat race. I worked my way up to the 3rd spot which got me qualified for the the qualifying A feature for the evening. My goal was to make one of these for the week. I started 20th and had worked my way to 11th and got caught up a little bit and finished 17th. Oh well, we have made my goal and I still have one night left!

Boone-- Monday

Today was the first big day of the week. We arrived at the track around ten am. Puffy, Dan and I got the car ready for the day. Hot laps were at 2pm. After that the waiting game began. My heat race hit the track shortly after 9pm. First lap a guy spun out right in front of me so we were already a half lap down. I ended up getting 7th in the heat race. The top 3 in the heats went to the qualifying A feature for the night. I ran a B feature at 12:30 and all that is for is the last chance stuff wed night. I started tenth and got 2nd. I was very happy and very tired but was happy with the first day performance!

Boone Supernationals! -- Sunday

After a long evening in Algona, Dan and I took off sunday morning for the inspection tent in Boone. We got there about 10 am and got the car unloaded. Getting in line of probably 100 cars already was not what I was looking forward to. Getting myself registered while Dan and my motor builder waited in line with the car we finally got to the tent. As they are checking the car over, they informed us that the motor was too far set back. Looking at it a little farther we found the motor mounts had twisted loose from the frame. So Dan and I headed to my friend's by Somers and pulled the motor out, fixed it and arrived in Boone about 8pm. So much for a relaxing day at the motorhome.

Busier than ever!

Taking us back to season championship night at Algona. I started the feature 4th and tried to be a little patient and got shuffled all the way back to 8th. After a caution I got things working back my way as I began working my way through the pack. We ended up the night one lap short finishing second and losing by half a car length. Good season at Algona, I ended up 5th in the points and was the 2009 stock car rookie of the year!

August 29th

Hard to believe the season is winding down in Algona!

I had a very good running car as I claimed my 6th heat race victory of the season.

I started third and caught a break early in the feature and found myself leading the first lap. As the laps wound down I continued to lead until a late race caution came out. Coming out of four we held onto the lead for another lap until I got passed on the high side.

As I tried to get him on the last lap, I pushed it a little too hard and opened the bottom and lost second in the last corner. However, I have no regrets because I gave it all and went for it. A 3rd place finish is very respectable and I'm very pleased.

updates

sorry, this summer has been very hectic as it is coming to an end. We have had a couple top ten finishes early in the month along with another heat race win.

August 1st-Algona

I started 3rd in the heat race and finished 3rd.

I started 5th in the feature, after the leader spun and caused a caution I was up to 3rd.

I had a good run, the car ran very well and I ended up finishing 4th. I am happy with another top 4 finish.

3rd Place....twice in one week

We went to Spencer on Thursday...one of my favorite places to race. I started outside front row in the heat race and finished first. I started the feature 7th and felt we had a very good car. I had to fight to get around the driver running third and finally got around him with two laps to go. The leaders had already checked out, so ended up 3rd. A finish I am proud to have.

Saturday night was back to Algona. I started 4th in the heat race and finished 3rd. For the feature, I started 3rd and ran 2nd til about 3 laps to go. The eventual winner got a little "bump and run" to get around me so I finished 3rd.

I am very happy with the two finishes this week.

Updates........It's Been Awhile

Sorry! Summer has been busy and its seems like the blog kept getting put off!

We have had an interesting last month racing. We went to Alta to a Stock Car Shootout, a trip to Britt and the weekly travels to Algona. We won a few heat races and missed a feature win by one spot.

I really feel we are getting a handle on the stock car class but with the tough competition it still takes time. Last night at Algona we got 5th in the feature and it went on the trailer in one piece.

We are planning to travel to Spencer on Thursday to run on the clay again. Spencer is one of my favorite tracks in the hobbystock so im hoping it continues in the stock car!

May 30th-Algona

After getting the car put back together, it was time to go racing. We made it through the hot laps with everything in one piece..easing the mind for a bit. I finished 3rd in the heat race so lined up 5th for the feature. I drove smart to avoid last weekends results and finished 7th in the feature.

Saturday-May 23rd-Jackson MN

Since Algona was cancelled on Saturday night, I decided to change gears and head to Jackson.

I didn't finish the heat race because somebody got a little squirrelly on the start and did some damage to the car. I got it put back together and was able to start the feature in 22nd position. I had worked my way up to 8th when a car in front of me got sideways and the car behind me took the rear-end off the car. After a trip to Schroeder Racing Products yesterday morning it's going to be a "few" hours of repair to get ready for next weekend.

I finished 2nd in the heat and made it to the A-Main feature. Started 12th for the feature. Worked my way up to 5th and was making the pass for 4th. We got together and I ended up breaking something in the front end. I made it a few more laps, but the car wasn't steering well and I ended up spinning the car. Finished 16th.

Algona-May 9th

After a 55 minute rain delay, the races finally got underway.

I started 3rd in the heat race and finished 3rd. I got passed by one car, but I also passed another.

I started 5th in the feature and was involved in a pile-up on the first lap. I re-started in the back of the pack and worked my way back up to 9th. The car ran well....it would be nice to see what happens when there's not a pile-up in front of me. We're getting there!

Algona-May 2nd

Back to the home track. Algona had much better track conditions than I encountered on Friday night in Britt. It was a beautiful night for racing. Mother Nature finally decided to cooperate.

I started 4th in the heat race and finished 3rd. I started 4th in the feature and finished 7th.

I am starting to get the car figured out, it's just going to take some time to get as comfortable with this car as I was in the Hobbystock. It gets a little better each time I drive it.

Britt-May 1, 2009

We went to Britt to try it out before their Stock Car Shoot-out on May 21st. The track was extremely rough, think plowed field. It wasn't a very impressive opening night for that track.

I started 9th in the heat race and finished 7th. I started 13th in the feature and finished 10th. The track was one groove and there wasn't much I could do. The car is in one piece so I guess you could call it a successful night in that aspect.

Algona-April 25

The track was very heavy and slimy due to the rain Algona received earlier in the day. The track needed to be worked an extra half hour just to get it ready to race on.

I started 3rd in the heat race and came across the line as the winner. The car was working great. I started 5th in the feature and was involved in an accident early on. A car got sideways in front of me and I didn't have anywhere to go but into him. There was no damage to my car, but had to start at the back of the pack. I worked my way through some of the cars to finish the race in 10th place.

Algona Raceway-April 11

The first night of the new season at Algona Raceway went off without a hitch. The weather cooperated, the car ran great and everybody is in one piece.
I started last in the heat race and finished 3rd. I started 12th in the feature and finished 9th. I'm content with 9th, considering it was the first night in a new class. The competition in the IMCA Stock Car class is tough, no matter what track you go to.
I'm looking forward to an awesome season.

Algona-August 11th

I started 7th in the heat race and finished 4th. I started 7th in the feature and finished 2nd. The car ran well. I just didn't have enough to catch Kurt Fothergill. He was running well, I was very happy with a 2nd place finish. Hopefully, the car will continue to run well and a win will follow.

Algona-July 28th

it was another great night. I started eighth in the heat race and made the pass for the lead on the last lap. Started the feature tenth, and the second lap into the race everybody got bunched up and I got spun around. Restarted last, and passed a few, but got docked four spots because I got caught jumping a restart. Oh well!

Algona-July 21st

Another night of bad luck and bad driving at Algona Raceway! I got stuck behind a car in the heat race that I just couldn't get around so I ended up getting 5th. I started 16th in the feature. I was up to about 9th when the same car hit me in the back bumper and spun me around. I restarted in the rear and was moving through the pack when a car next to me spun and caught my rear tire and snapped the axle.

Algona-July 14th

Car ran well, got 3rd in the heat race after racing on a VERY slimy track. In the feature, started 10th and tried to past the 2nd place car when I was on the outside of him going into the first corner and he drifted high and bumped me over the cushion. I lost two spots on the second to last lap. Oh well, car ran great again, just can't get the trophy.

Algona- Rained Out

Monday, June 11, 2007

Algona-June 9th

Track was nice tonight. I started dead last in the heat race and got up to 2nd.

In the feature, I started 10th and had a fast car. By the 4th lap of the race, I was inside the top 5. Half way through the race I made a pass for the lead going down the front stretch. As I went through the corner, the guy I just passed went WAY! to hard through the corner and drove through the drivers side of the car. He got into me hard enough to shove me into the wall to end the night.

Oh well, I had a fast car again tonight and have nothing to show for it. That's racing!

Britt-June 8th

We ran a $500 special at Britt on Thursday night.

We started outside front row in the heat race and won that race. We started outside front row in the feature and got the lead after lap 2. Track was very dry so I went to the bottom.

About a lap later I got passed by two cars so I went back up to the top of the track. Got back to 2nd and ran right behind the leader. The third place guy and I ran door to door for three laps until he blew a tire, bobbled and got into me and spun me out. Dad, Dan,Rod and Svuba got me back out and finished 18th. Two laps isn't enough time to get to the front.

Algona-May 19th

I finished 2nd in the heat race and started 11th in the feature. In the second lap everything got tight and I was spun through the infield.

I restarted 20th and worked my way up to 4th. The feature went caution free. The car worked very well running the bottom.

Before starting the races last night I found the cam shaft gear was starting to strip off. I was very happy the car held together.

The motor is now at John Norman's getting repaired, hopefully by next Saturday.

Saturday-April 28th

Another great night of racing......

I finished 2nd in the heat race and started 11th for the feature. The track is lining up by points again this year and since I was 2nd last week, I started in the 6th row.

On the first lap someone lost an axle and spun out in front of me. I didn't have anywhere to go and ended up with some front end damage. After Dan Eaton, Brent Svuba, and Kent Haugland pulled off the nose piece and front bumper, I restarted at the rear of the pack. The car was fast and I ended up passing about 16 cars to end with a 3rd place finish.

Algona-April 21, 2007

This is the way to start the season..........

I finished 2nd in the heat race and started on the pole for the feature. I led the whole race through 6 cautions. On the last corner of the last lap I hit a rut and went high and Calvin Lange passed for the win. Congrats to Calvin!

I was very happy with the way the car performed and am looking forward to the rest of the season.

Saturday, August 26th

Algona Raceway
Algona, IA

I started 6th in the feature and had a good run going. I was up to third and ended up blowing a right rear tire. Ater that was changed, I started in the back of the pack and made it back up to 10th by the end of the feature.

Algona-August 19th

Saturday, August 19, 2006
Algona Raceway

The curse seems to be lifted....

I started and finished 3rd in the heat race. I started 7th in the feature. I got shuffled to about 12th or 13th after the first few laps. I made my way through the pack and finished 4th.

Friday, August 11th
Britt, IA

I started and finished 5th in the heat race. I started 20th in the feature and finished 5th.

Twenty-six USRA Hobby Stocks were ready to show the fans what they were made of on Friday night at the Britt speedplant. Randy Hadacek was out to a quick lead by with just two laps complete, he was off the pace with a flat tire. That opened the door for the #56h of Brandon Hare. After the first caution of the race, drivers were 3-wide on the front stretch causing some contact. Hare was able to keep himself clean and start the drivers on a single-file restart. Gary Lalor gave cause for the fans to stand as he battled Hare to the finish line. The #56h took the checked as Lalor came in a close second. Josh Hohensee of Pocahontas, Iowa, made a good run in his #68 from his 20th starting position to pick up a fifth place finish.

Saturday, August 12th

I started 6th in the heat race and finished 3rd. I started 11th in the feature and finished 10th.

August 5th-Algona Fair Race

Even more bad luck........

I got 3rd in the heat race. I started 10th in the feature, the car was not running very well. Then I got caught up in a wreck and finished 11th.

The car is now at the motor-builder's. Hopefully he'll figure out what is going on with it.

2 races in one week!

I went to Britt on Tuesday night for Night of 1000 stars. The track was very muddy. I stared 6th in the heat race and finished 5th. I pulled to my trailer and found that the bushing came out of the transmission AGAIN! Instead of taking a chance in the feature, I loaded the car onto the trailer.

On Saturday, I raced in Algona. I started 8th in the heat race and finished 2nd. The track was really good and dry (it would have been great for the feature) but the promoter decided to "super soak" the track leaving it wet and slimy! I started 10th in the feature and finished 8th. The night was still good because the transmission stayed together.

Black Flag!

Saturday, July 15th

It was a very hot and humid night of racing in Algona.

The track was very sloppy during the heat race. I finished 7th in the heat race.

After the heat race, I found the rear bushing and seal had vibrated out of the new transmission that was just put in. With the help of Rod McClurg, Jeff Nielsen, Puffy and Bruce Wickman we put Dave Wickman's tail shaft housing into the car with 5 minutes to spare before the feature.

I started last in the feature. On the corner of the first lap a car came down from the high side into my right front fender. His car was sideways and I had about 3/10ths of a second to make a decision. If I were to hit the breaks and slide into him again I would take the risk of bending the front frame and radiator. Since I already made contact I made the decision to stay on the gas and spin him around. That decision got me a "beautiful black flag"!

So much for 45 minutes of hot, sweaty labor before the feature.
