I finished 2nd in the heat race and started 11th in the feature. In the second lap everything got tight and I was spun through the infield.
I restarted 20th and worked my way up to 4th. The feature went caution free. The car worked very well running the bottom.
Before starting the races last night I found the cam shaft gear was starting to strip off. I was very happy the car held together.
The motor is now at John Norman's getting repaired, hopefully by next Saturday.

Saturday-April 28th
Another great night of racing......
I finished 2nd in the heat race and started 11th for the feature. The track is lining up by points again this year and since I was 2nd last week, I started in the 6th row.
On the first lap someone lost an axle and spun out in front of me. I didn't have anywhere to go and ended up with some front end damage. After Dan Eaton, Brent Svuba, and Kent Haugland pulled off the nose piece and front bumper, I restarted at the rear of the pack. The car was fast and I ended up passing about 16 cars to end with a 3rd place finish.

This is the way to start the season..........
I finished 2nd in the heat race and started on the pole for the feature. I led the whole race through 6 cautions. On the last corner of the last lap I hit a rut and went high and Calvin Lange passed for the win. Congrats to Calvin!
I was very happy with the way the car performed and am looking forward to the rest of the season.

Friday, August 11th
Britt, IA
I started and finished 5th in the heat race. I started 20th in the feature and finished 5th.
Twenty-six USRA Hobby Stocks were ready to show the fans what they were made of on Friday night at the Britt speedplant. Randy Hadacek was out to a quick lead by with just two laps complete, he was off the pace with a flat tire. That opened the door for the #56h of Brandon Hare. After the first caution of the race, drivers were 3-wide on the front stretch causing some contact. Hare was able to keep himself clean and start the drivers on a single-file restart. Gary Lalor gave cause for the fans to stand as he battled Hare to the finish line. The #56h took the checked as Lalor came in a close second. Josh Hohensee of Pocahontas, Iowa, made a good run in his #68 from his 20th starting position to pick up a fifth place finish.

Even more bad luck........
I got 3rd in the heat race. I started 10th in the feature, the car was not running very well. Then I got caught up in a wreck and finished 11th.
The car is now at the motor-builder's. Hopefully he'll figure out what is going on with it.

2 races in one week!
I went to Britt on Tuesday night for Night of 1000 stars. The track was very muddy. I stared 6th in the heat race and finished 5th. I pulled to my trailer and found that the bushing came out of the transmission AGAIN! Instead of taking a chance in the feature, I loaded the car onto the trailer.
On Saturday, I raced in Algona. I started 8th in the heat race and finished 2nd. The track was really good and dry (it would have been great for the feature) but the promoter decided to "super soak" the track leaving it wet and slimy! I started 10th in the feature and finished 8th. The night was still good because the transmission stayed together.

Black Flag!
Saturday, July 15th
It was a very hot and humid night of racing in Algona.
The track was very sloppy during the heat race. I finished 7th in the heat race.
After the heat race, I found the rear bushing and seal had vibrated out of the new transmission that was just put in. With the help of Rod McClurg, Jeff Nielsen, Puffy and Bruce Wickman we put Dave Wickman's tail shaft housing into the car with 5 minutes to spare before the feature.
I started last in the feature. On the corner of the first lap a car came down from the high side into my right front fender. His car was sideways and I had about 3/10ths of a second to make a decision. If I were to hit the breaks and slide into him again I would take the risk of bending the front frame and radiator. Since I already made contact I made the decision to stay on the gas and spin him around. That decision got me a "beautiful black flag"!
So much for 45 minutes of hot, sweaty labor before the feature.

More Bad Luck
While I was getting the car ready to go this weekend, I noticed a tranny leak. Upon moving the transmission, I found that the transmission case was cracked.
So instead of going racing, I took my tranny to Boone. Hope to have it back together for next weekend.
THIS SUCKS!

Algona-June 24th
Algona Raceway
Algona, IA
It turned out to be a beautiful night for racing in Algona Saturday night. There was a rain shower that passed over before the races started. There was still a threat of rain, so they decided not to run any hot laps. The track started out greasy in the heat race. And ended up being dry for the feature. I started 7th in the heat race and finished 6th. I started 11th in the feature and worked my way up to 2nd. By the time I got to 2nd the driver in the 1st position was too far ahead to close the gap. There are some races where you need an extra couple laps and there are races you wish would end a couple laps sooner!

I started 6th in the feature, but got shuffled to 9th on the start. The track was super dry. I went to the high side. I got the car to hook-up and headed to the front of the pack. At the end of the race, I lost by about 6 inches. But if I had to lose, I would rather lose to George than anyone else.

Algona
We raced Saturday night in Algona. It was nice to be back and racing with old friends.
I started 8th in the heat race and finished 4th. And nobody ran into me once. The track was like a "sheet of glass" after racing in Fort Dodge.
I started 10th in the feature. This year the track is lining up by points average rather than the draw/redraw system. I barely missed a first corner wreck that resulted in about 3 cars leaving the track. The second restart also resulted a first corner wreck that I barely missed. This one caused a flat tire and I left the track since we decided not to bring any tires down to the "pit area". I ended up finishing 12th but had a ball doing it! That's what racing is supposed to be about....FUN!
I started 8th in the heat race and finished 4th. And nobody ran into me once. The track was like a "sheet of glass" after racing in Fort Dodge.
I started 10th in the feature. This year the track is lining up by points average rather than the draw/redraw system. Another Rough Night
Friday, May 5th
Mineral City Speedway, Fort Dodge
We had a decent heat race. I started towards the back of the pack and finished second. The track was starting to get a little rough.
By the time the feature started the track was very rough AGAIN! I started in the 4th row and finished 8th.
The whole night was more about coming home with a complete car rather than winning a race.
We will probably not be racing in Fort Dodge for awhile due to lousy track conditions weekly and also the lack of respect by the other drivers.

First Race of the Season
We finally got the season underway in Fort Dodge last night. I had a little power problem in the heat race but got that worked out to make an appearance in the feature. I ended up finishing 14th after getting the black flag for smoking .
I am very happy with the car's performance on the first night. There are a few "bugs" to work out but I think this is going to be a great season for the 68 Race Team.
Thanks to all my fans and sponsors who came out to support me. I love seeing you there!

Fort Dodge Special
The 68 race team made its appearance in Fort Dodge Friday Night. The track was very dry with just one groove. I started 2nd in the heat race and finished 1st. In the feature I started 8th and finished 6th. They were taking the top 8 as qualifiers for the Main Event on Saturday night, so I qualified without having to run any last chance races.
The races were rained out Saturday night and rescheduled for Sunday. Then they were rained out again Sunday. No word yet on if and when they will be running the last night of the Special.
I ended up finishing 3rd when they made up the race.

Algona Season Championship
Tonight was the Season Championship in Algona. I finished 2nd in the heat, but that didn't really matter tonight. Since its the Championship, the feature was lined up by points. I was tied for 3 & 4 so I started on the inside of row 2. It was a great track and my car really ran well. I was leading with 4 laps to go when a lapped car caused a caution. I ended up finishing 2nd for the night. I finished 3rd in points at the track. The regular race season has come to an end. I am taking a couple weeks off and will be racing in Fort Dodge later this month.

Back on the Track
The good news is the car is back together and I was back on the track tonight. I started and finished 4th in the heat race. In the feature it was another typical draw for the 68 race team. I started 11th and finished 6th. The bad news is I am now tied for 3rd place in points. Next Saturday is the last race in Algona so we'll see how the points go. To check full race results go to: www.algonaraceway.com.
I will be running some specials in Mason City on September 9-10 and Fort Dodge on September 23-24.

Frame Machine, Here I Come!

What a rough night at Algona . The night started out ok. I finished 4th in the heat race. I started 10th in the feature. And finished 16th. There was a car sideways in the corner that I just couldn't avoid, the damage there wasn't too bad. But then another car came barreling out of the corner and smashed into me. The picture shows the result of that "fender bender"!! If you click on the picture it will enlarge. Hopefully, the car will get put back together for another fun-filled night of racing next weekend.

Another fun-filled night of racing in Algona. I finished 5th in the heat race. I started 12th in the feature and finished 3rd. I am very happy with the way the car (and driver) did tonight.
Big Britt Blowout
What a long night of racing in Britt tonight. Since the show was rained out last night, we ran it all tonight. I ended up racing 4 races tonight. We started the night with the races that we should have run last night. I finished 2nd in the heat races to make it to the first feature. I pulled off in that qualifying feature. In the last chance heat race I finished 1st. I started the feature in the 7th row outside. It was a "rough and tumble" race. I ended up finishing 11th with alot less work to do on my car than some of the other driver's. All in all, it was a great night of racing.

Wednesday, August 10, 2005
I finished 5th in the heat race so made it to the Main Event without having to run a B main. I started 18th in the Feature and made it up to 9th before having to pull off the track with a flat tire. The top 6 will make up the inside row of the race for $2,000 on Friday. The top 6 from tonights race will make up the outside row. The car was running great! The track was a little rough and the driver's even rougher. There were alot of cars torn up but, thank goodness, mine wasn't one of them. We'll see what tonight brings.

Racing in Britt
The 68 Race Team will be appearing in Britt Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night this week.
BRITT, Iowa -- The “who’s who” of dirt Stock Car racing in the Midwest are gearing up for this week's clash at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, for the inaugural USRA Stock Car Nationals presented by Unicover, Casey’s General Store and Max Yield. The event is the richest ever staged at the 3/8-mile clay oval, with a whopping $10,000 awaiting the winner of Friday night’s Stock Car finale, while the Hobby Stock winner will take home $2,000. As of Monday, 83 drivers have pre-entered for this event including 60 Stock Car drivers and 23 in the Hobby Stocks. Several more last-minute arrivals are expected to push the number at or near 100 competitors for the Wednesday-Friday, Aug. 10-12 blowout. Qualifying for one of the 24 starting spots in each of Friday’s main events will be a test of wills as the last-place finishers will earn a bigger paycheck than they can normally cash for winning a feature race. Stock Cars will pay $560 to start Friday’s 40-lap feature, while drivers taking the green flag in the 25-lap Hobby Stock finale are guaranteed $200. An open practice for drivers to test and tune their machines is scheduled for Tuesday night, Aug. 9 from 6-9:30 p.m. Pit passes for the practice session will be $15, with free admission for grandstand spectators wishing to watch the pre-race testing. Racing action will get underway on Wednesday night, Aug. 10 with the top six cars in both the Stock Car and Hobby Stock features getting locked into the inside row of Friday night’s main events. On Thursday night, the top six will lock themselves into the outside rows. Friday night will see last chance races to fill the final 12 starting spots. Motel rooms in Forest City and Algona have confirmed some rooms available. However, lodging in nearby Clear Lake and Mason City are nearly sold out. Don't forget, it is also Hobo Days in Britt so there will be a lot of activities going on each day for the whole family. Gates will open at 4 p.m. each night, with hot laps slated at 7 and racing to follow. Grandstand admission will be $12 for adults on Wednesday and Thursday, with Friday night’s finale $15. Kids ages 6-14 are $3 on Wednesday and Thursday, then $5 on Friday. Children ages 5 and under are admitted FREE all three nights. Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks will compete all three nights, with the USRA Modifieds, B-Modifieds and Hornets joining the program on Friday. United States Racing Association (USRA) rules will apply for this event. Entry forms are available for both classes by calling the USRA headquarters at 515-832-7944. For more information visit www.HancockCoSpeedway.com online.

It was the fair race at Algona. I started 4th in the heat race and finished 3rd. I started 12th in the feature and finished 8th. The thing to remember on nights like this: The car is in one piece and so am I. That's really all that's important.

This is an article that was printed in the Algona Upper Des Moines on August 4, 2005 about the win on July 30th. You should be able to click on the picture to make it a "readable" size. Then a box will appear in the corner of the article. Click on that and it should resize even bigger. Hope this works for everyone.
